I am writing this in an airport lounge as I am about to head to Oman; and as I sit here I find myself dwelling on a question I often get asked – I have been with Deloitte now for more than 16 years; so what keeps me here?

People that know me know I have a saying, “I don’t change companies, I change countries”. Since joining Deloitte in Australia I have lived in six different countries on three different continents (and three islands!) and had the opportunity to travel to at least 13 more (that I can think of off the top of my head). I also have some amazing holiday memories, and have met my future husband because of where Deloitte has taken me.

A large part of it comes down to the fact that I love what I do. I work in the Forensics team (within Financial Advisory Services) as a regulatory and corporate investigator.  Not knowing what any given day might bring; but knowing that whatever it is, you will be helping a client solve a problem is the reason I get out of bed every day. I have been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to work on some of the largest, most complex and highest profile investigations that Deloitte has been involved in; and whilst we typically cannot name our clients (for confidentiality reasons), it makes me very proud to work for Deloitte.

Another reason I enjoy working for Deloitte is the international network that we have access to. When I was younger I never thought I would work for a “Big 4” professional services firm as I didn’t want to work somewhere I didn’t know everyone’s name. Thankfully, I’ve grown out of that! Now, knowing that we have an international network of more than 200,000 people all around the world working towards a common goal – to provide the highest quality client service to our clients; and knowing that whilst I may not know the answer to a client enquiry (or everyone’s name), the fact that I know someone who knows someone, who knows someone who does know the answer is very powerful!

Similarly, the power of the Deloitte brand should never be underestimated. In this day and age it is difficult to protect a brand name or image. I take pride in the fact that I work alongside like-minded individuals focused on upholding the high standard service standards that the Deloitte brand has been built on.

Now, they are calling my flight, but I will leave you with one final thought – what keeps you at Deloitte? Whatever it is, don’t waste it – seize the moment!
