By Stephanie Merhej, Tadarab intern, Deloitte Middle East

Since the beginning of my undergraduate studies, I have always aspired to gain work experience at one of the largest accounting firms. After speaking with current Deloitte employees and former interns, I was further convinced that getting an internship at Deloitte would provide me with a challenging yet extremely rewarding experience.

Now having interned at the Beirut office at Deloitte myself, I was exposed to the audit world, as well as Deloitte’s well-known teamwork and principles experiences. During my internship, I was assigned to one client for the entire six-week internship. With this assignment, I can confidently say that I was able to discover and develop various skills that would allow me to excel in the audit field. I genuinely appreciated and took advantage of Deloitte’s policy concerning its treatment of interns as current employees. This significantly contributed to the entire internship experience and allowed me to see firsthand what it was like to work for the largest professional services firm in the world.

I also enjoyed working with my team because they would often challenge me with difficult tasks and allowed me to discover my full potential. It was comforting to know that if I ever had doubts or troubles with my work, Deloitte’s culture would allow me to confidently reach out to a team member for help and guidance. They were always willing to take the time to teach and explain anything that I would need help with.

I genuinely enjoyed Deloitte’s working atmosphere and the ability to easily network and connect to associates, senior staff members, and partners. For each assignment, I was able to work directly with various senior members with whom I was able to build concrete professional relationships. This allowed me to gain invaluable experience of what it would be like to work at Deloitte if given the opportunity.

On a personal note, I was initially reluctant about taking on too much work with the fear that I would not be able to meet expectations. However, with the help and support of my team, I was able to develop the confidence and skills that allowed me to excel in any task that was assigned and make my own impact that mattered.
